Mr. Yi Gang, Ph.D. in Economics, was born in 1958.

He studied in Department of Economics, Peking University. |
1980-1986 |
He studied Business Administration in Hamline University, then studied Economics and received a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Illinois. |
1986-1994 |
He served successively as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Department of Economics, Indiana University, and became a tenured professor in 1992. |
1994 |
He co-founded the China Center for Economic Rsearch (CCER) at Peking University and served as Deputy Director. He taught at the CCER as Professor and Ph.D Advisor of Economics. |
1997-2002 |
He served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Monetary Policy Committee of the PBC. |
2002-2003 |
He served as Secretary-General of the Monetary Policy Committee and Deputy Director-General of the Monetary Policy Department of the PBC. |

He became Director-General of the Monetary Policy Department, PBC. |
Jul. 2004 |
He became a member of the CPC PBC Committee and Assistant Governor of the PBC. From Sep. 2006 to Oct. 2007, he also served as President of the Operation Office of the PBC, Secretary of CPC PBC Operation Office Committee, and Head of Beijing Foreign Exchange Administration Office, State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE). |

He became Deputy Governor of the PBC and continued to serve as a member of the CPC PBC Committee. From Jul. 2009 to Dec. 2015, he also served as Administrator of SAFE, and Secretary of CPC SAFE Leadership Group. |

He became Deputy Secretary of the CPC PBC Committee while continuing to serve as Deputy Governor of the PBC. |

He was appointed Governor of the PBC. |
He has been Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs since July 2013. He is an alternate member of the 19th CPC Central Committee. He was representative of the 18th and 19th CPC National Congress, and member of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conferece (CPPCC) National Committee. |
