According to preliminary statistics, the total assets of financial institutions in China reached 413.46 trillion yuan at end-Q3 2022, increasing 10.1 percent year on year. Specifically, the assets of banking institutions registered 373.88 trillion yuan, increasing 10.2 percent year on year; those of securities institutions reached 12.87 trillion yuan, growing 7.3 percent year on year; those of insurance institutions reached 26.71 trillion yuan, growing 9.8 percent year on year.
The total liabilities of financial institutions reached 376.61 trillion yuan, increasing 10.3 percent year on year. Specifically, the liabilities of banking institutions registered 342.94 trillion yuan, increasing 10.4 percent year on year; those of securities institutions reached 9.68 trillion yuan, increasing 6 percent year on year; those of insurance institutions reached 23.98 trillion yuan, growing 11.7 percent year on year.

1. The total assets, liabilities and owners’ equity of financial institutions are the aggregates of relevant indexes of banking, securities, and insurance institutions. Specifically, banking institutions refer to incorporated financial institutions (overseas branches included), excluding the central bank. Securities institutions include securities, futures, and fund companies. The total assets of securities and futures companies include their own assets and those of their customers. Insurance institutions include property insurance companies, life and health insurance companies, reinsurance companies, insurance group companies, and insurance asset management companies.
