At the invitation of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Agustín Carstens gave a lecture entitled “Central Banking: embracing change” at the PBOC on May 22, 2024. Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng chaired the lecture. Mr. Zhang Tao, Chief Representative of the BIS Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific attended the lecture. Mr. Carstens also answered questions from the PBOC and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) staff on global economy, financial and payment innovation as well as opportunities and challenges faced by central banks.
