The People’s Bank of China will issue the five-yuan banknote of the fifth RMB series (2020 edition) from November 5, 2020.
I. Banknote Features
The five-yuan banknote of the fifth RMB series (2020 edition) retains the major elements of its 2005 version, such as the dimensions, the overall design, the predominant colors, “The People’s Bank of China” in Chinese characters, Pinyin and ethnic languages, the national emblem, and the denomination numeral in braille, with better visual effects and enhanced security features.
On the front of the note, the denomination numeral 5 in the middle is printed with optically variable magnetic ink. In the lower left and upper right corners are now see-through shapes in raised print that form the denomination numeral 5 and some patterns. There are newly added decorative patterns on the left. The location of the highlight watermark showing the denomination numeral has been adjusted. Modifications have been made to the floral watermark and the horizontal number, both of which are on the left, and to the floral design in the middle, while the portrait of Mao Zedong on the right has been improved. The holographic magnetic windowed security thread in the middle and the tactile lines along the right side have been removed.
On the back of the note, located in the lower left and upper right corners are see-through shapes in raised print that form the denomination numeral and some patterns. Modifications have been made to the main image and the denomination numeral, with the year of issue changed to 2020.
II. Once issued, the five-yuan banknote of the fifth RMB series (2020 edition) will circulate alongside the existing RMB banknotes of the same denomination and they are equivalent in value.
